Meet the Women Behind Woods(wo)man
Woods(wo)man Woodworking isn’t just about craftship—it’s about the people behind the work, the hands that shape each piece, and the stories woven into every design. While I (Jackie) may have started this journey alone, I’m lucky to have an incredible team of women who bring their skills, creativity, and personality into the workshop every day.
So, let’s pull back the curtain and introduce the team behind Woods(wo)man—the women sanding, shaping, and turning raw wood into something magical.
MEET THE TEAM:
Jackie Toner (she/her) – Lead Artist & Designer
As the founder of Woods(wo)man, I spend my days designing new products, experimenting with techniques, and keeping the workshop buzzing (usually to the sound of Lady Gaga). Woodworking started as an escape from academia but quickly turned into my passion and career. Now, I get to build beautiful, functional pieces while fostering a space where creativity thrives.
💡 Favorite Tool: My lathe—it’s where the magic happens!
🎶 Workshop Soundtrack: Lady Gaga all the way!
🪚 Advice for New Woodworkers: If you have an idea, give it a try. Worst-case scenario? It becomes firewood.
✨ Dream Project: A library for my fiancée (because books deserve a beautiful home, too).
🐶 Best Part of Woods(wo)man: The flexibility to be creative and support other young women in woodworking.
Sarah Breadner (she/her) – Lead Production Assistant
Sarah has been with Woods(wo)man since the fall of 2024 and keeps things running smoothly in the shop, from shaping and assembling to making sure every piece is built with care. Living right now in Three Mile Plains, Nova Scotia, she balances work life balance with a serious passion for video games!
💡 Favorite Tool: Drill Press—simple, powerful, and reliable.
🎶 Workshop Soundtrack: Anything but country music.
🪚 Advice for New Woodworkers: Treat the tools with respect—they’ll respect you back.
✨ Dream Project: (Still deciding…!)
🐶 Best Part of Woods(wo)man: The relaxed, low-stress environment and the best coworkers (including the four-legged ones).
Kaylee Dykens (she/her) – Production Assistant
Kaylee is a powerhouse behind production since she started with us in January 2025, helping bring designs to life with precision and care. Hailing from Walton, Nova Scotia, she’s an outdoors enthusiast who thrives on adventure—whether it’s ATVing, snowmobiling, or making sawdust fly in the shop.
💡 Favorite Tool: Mirka Random Orbital Sander—because smooth finishes matter!
🎶 Workshop Soundtrack: Nickelback (no judgment, only vibes).
🪚 Advice for New Woodworkers: Watch your fingers on the belt sander—it bites!
✨ Dream Project: Building my dream house from the ground up.
🐶 Best Part of Woods(wo)man: The welcoming environment… and, of course, the dogs.
A Team That Builds More Than Just Woodwork
At Woods(wo)man, we’re more than just a woodworking shop—we’re a team. A group of women who share a love for creativity, craftship, and making things with our hands. We bring different styles, experiences, and personalities to the table, but at the end of the day, we all believe in the same thing: creating beautiful, functional pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of wood.
Growing this business to the point where I can share my knowledge with Kaylee and Sarah has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. I’ve been able to pass down skills and techniques that I wish someone had taught me when I was starting out—helping them skip some of the trial and error that I had to navigate alone. But the best part? They teach me just as much in return. These two are just as invested in Woods(wo)man as I am, constantly coming up with new ways to improve processes, make production more efficient, or solve problems I might not have even noticed. It’s a true collaboration, and I’m grateful every day to work alongside such talented and thoughtful makers.
